10 things you need to start doing now for better 2020

As you bid adieu to 2019 and welcome the new year 2020, your thoughts should run back to look back at those 12 months that you have spent in 2019. What all you accomplished, what were your achievements, were you a better person than before and various such questions to explore within the self. Not only being selfish, you should also think about your country, about the world as a whole. Was there peace in the country, were the countrymen happy, was there global peace and how far mankind has progressed or degraded in the name of technological achievement, environment, and for the betterment of the society.

With such thoughts even for a minute, you will find the reality and the state of matters to find the surprising factor that we all need to do a lot more in every aspect of life for ourselves and for the world. Though not all of you might be concerned about such things, the fact is if we compare ourselves to the Paleolithic or more primitive stage of our existence, we are still the same in our behavior, with only improvements that we have fully used the technological advancements for our better living standards and comforts.

Therefore we have a lot more to grow spiritually for our inner growth, keeping aside the concept to gather material things to have a comfortable environment around us globally that benefits one and all.

Many of my friends are busy making a list of new year resolutions but like each year January 1st is the normal day to start your life like any other day. According to psychologist Noam Shpancer New Year’s Resolutions Aren’t Helpful as the real personal change comes from real conviction, and real conviction emerges from real learning—a process in which new knowledge leads to seeing new things, or to seeing old things with new eyes. Therefore those who run after new year resolutions in a study showed that there is a date where all this fanatic theory vanishes and you are back to square one.

So what you should do instead of wasting time on new year resolutions. This is entirely up to you to decide. For me hee are 10 things you need to start doing now for better 2020 if you are really concerned about your planet and living beings.

1. Make no new year resolutions

As said above the time has come to abandon the traditional theory of new year resolutions. Such a concept can be good for kids at school but for young and the old, this theory of making new year resolutions is a sheer waste of time, which is ironic, given that the unrelenting and one-directional passage of time is what the day highlights. In fact, making such resolutions is, if anything, counterproductive.
According to the psychologists, this is because it’s counterproductive to get in the habit of breaking promises you make to those you care about and you, presumably, are one of those. A habit of repeatedly breaking your own word cheapens it, and experiencing self-inflicted failure lowers your self-efficacy—the belief that one can perform novel or difficult tasks and attain desired outcomes. Low self-efficacy then becomes its own barrier to change. There flow with your own time and if you have a goal, accomplish it slowly and steadily without making promises to achieve it in the set time.

You must have heard and read in the news how people o two groups fight, ethnic and religious violence, shooting by young people due to hate, political abuse and fights and many other such intolerant behavior in society. In this globalization, where people of different backgrounds, cultures, and religions are living together, and where the world has become multicultural and full of diversity, establishing tolerance and harmony has become very crucial and important, and fostering mutual love and affection has become vital.
Without tolerance and harmony, the lasting peace of societies cannot be maintained, and loyalty for each other cannot be established. Lack of tolerance leads to fighting, violence, and finally, it destroys the peace and security of society. When people fail in their arguments they become intolerant, and then they use force and aggression to support their point of view. To inculcate tolerance you need to look at each other with love and respect. That starts at home when we are tolerant towards one another, in our relations at home, at the workplace, at businesses and everywhere.

3. Be Patient

To achieve tolerance, patience is also needed. How many times we become impatient at places where we have to wait in the queue like at hospitals, in stores or at airports and we are desperate to roll ourselves at the first position in the line to complete our task. We all want instant gratification and want things without waiting like we expect packages delivered the same day or expect immediate results in the gym or become impatient when our spouse or partner doesn’t turn up in time.

The best way to practice patience is to make yourself wait. A study published in Psychological Science shows that waiting for things actually makes us happier in the long run. Start with something small like waiting a few extra minutes to drink that milkshake and then move on to something bigger. You will begin to gain more patience as you practice.

Also, it’s time to learn to say no to things that cause stress and make us impatient. Most people have several tasks in their head, and they jump from thought to thought without taking the time to finish one task first. We try to multitask and it is frustrating when we feel we aren’t making progress. It is better to be mindful of our thoughts and the best way to understand this is to write down what makes you impatient. This will help you slow down and focus on one task at a time and remove those things that stress you out. Most of all, just relax and take deep breaths. Taking slow deep breaths can help calm the mind and body. This is the easiest way to help ease any impatient feelings you are experiencing. It is time we all slow down and practice a little more patience.

4. Be kind to one and all

I love the way Ellen show always asks everyone to be kind to one and all. It is not only that we have to be kind to humans but also to animals and every living being. Giving to others is a common notion of kindness. You can give money to a charity or offer food or shelter to a homeless person or a stray animal. Underlying giving as a form of kindness is the sacrifice of something you have to improve another person’s life. The other way you can show kindness is by a smile, hold the door open if someone’s hands are full. It won’t even take a minute extra of your time. Complement others for something good that they are doing, engaging in talk with your employees or who work for you and asking them how they do. If you received excellent service at a restaurant, show your gratitude. Give yourself time, whether it’s once a week or every day, where you call your loved ones to see how they’re doing along with just reminding them that they’re in your thoughts. Also, be kind to someone you don’t like. Once you form the habit of acting kinder, it will become second nature and you’ll no longer even think twice about it.

5. Be Respectful

It’s a popular saying treat others the same way you wish yourself to be treated. Respect for your elders, neighbors, and society is important. Show respect by being thankful, being polite to one another, listen patiently to others, When you give another person your time and your focus and your ear, you validate them. Which conveys respect. Until you listen to another person’s concerns, you will not know who they are and what’s important to them. Respect begins with listening. Also, affirm as when we affirm someone, we’re giving evidence that they matter and are important.

English-American poet W.H. Auden once said that “We are all here on earth to help others; what on earth the others are here for I don’t know.” Life on earth is about serving others. In fact, our professions, our careers, and our jobs should revolve around a desire to serve others. To give back to others. To use our talents and abilities to make life better for others and that we care and caring shows that we respect.

It’s because we don’t care for our elders. If our elders are not fit to earn now due to illness or otherwise this doesn’t mean you will throw them out to shelter homes. You can still care for them. You can learn how to handle the obstacles and difficulties that arise—and you can also let go of some of the guilt, stress and other energy-draining emotions that pull you down and make you feel defeated and exhausted. You need to take time to assess their needs. They may need assistance caring for their medical needs, or perhaps they could benefit from extra support during their day-to-day activities. If you aren’t able to care for them yourself, look for resources in your area such as assisted living facilities or in-home care services.

To help them feel more independent and in control of their situation, include them in all conversations and decisions about their care. Communicate openly and honestly with them and ask them for their input and opinions about any options you are considering. Whether your loved one is still living independently, is staying with you, or has live-in support, you can help them in all possible ways.

7. Be Healthier

Make a time table for your daily activities which should include your health planning as well. Research shows a healthy positive attitude helps build a healthier immune system and boosts overall health. Your body believes what you think, so focus on the positive. Go for five servings of vegetables a day — raw, steamed, or stir-fried as a diet high in vegetables is associated with a reduced risk of developing cancers of the lung, colon, breast, cervix, esophagus, stomach, bladder, pancreas, and ovaries. Also, daily exercise can reduce all stress, improve your body so If you want to live well and live longer, you must exercise! Seep well, try relaxation techniques such as meditation and yoga to be fit and healthy.

Don’t be too much spendthrift but save money for your bad times and to give some in charity. The first step to start saving money is to figure out how much you spend. Keep track of all your expenses even the tiniest of spend. Now begin to organize your recorded expenses into a workable budget. Your budget should outline how your expenses measure up to your income—so you can plan your spending and limit overspending. If your expenses are so high that you can’t save as much as you’d like, it might be time to cut back. Identify nonessentials that you can spend less on, and find ways to save money.
One of the best ways to save money is to set a goal. Then figure out how much money you’ll need and how long it might take you to save it.
After your expenses and income, your goals are likely to have the biggest impact on how you allocate your savings. Be sure to remember long-term goals—it’s important that planning for retirement doesn’t take a back seat to shorter-term needs.

9. Learn new

Pick up anything new you wish to learn like how to skate, how to play any musical instrument, learning a new language or anything you wish. Learning is fun and everything that’s taught can be fun, that resonate with you and make your learning that much quicker and effective.
You can grow as a person, develop your knowledge base and improve yourself for the better when you learn new. Learning something new gets you to access to new and different opportunities and the chance to try new experiences that might be the best ones you have ever tried. You could potentially earn more money in your work life from learning a new and appropriate skill or by developing one that links to the work you do. You’ll rejuvenate your working life and get so much more from it. Developing a new skill will influence the way you do things day today and they will make doing things quicker and easier, saving time, energy and stress.

10. Care for environment

This is a very important task to do and each one of us should be committed to doing it. After all, as you take care of your body, your internal environment you need to look after the environment that surrounds you – the air, soil, water, and ecosystems – is equally important for our health and the health and well being of others. Start protecting the environment around you by reducing consumption and recycling, and reduce the costs and environmental burden of waste. Avoid using plastics and throwing liter near beaches, mountains, and valleys. Then by pitching in to clean up, restore and enhance local waterways, shorelines, and other ecosystems, you can help native plants and wildlife to flourish.
Improve air quality by avoiding smoking, driving less and avoid loud music and blaring horns. Just think why our Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are dying, and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace. It has become clear that humans have caused most of the past century’s warming by releasing heat-trapping gases as we power our modern lives. We often call the result of global warming, but it is causing a set of changes to the Earth’s climate, or long-term weather patterns, that varies from place to place. Climate change encompasses not only rising average temperatures but also extreme weather events, shifting wildlife populations and habitats, rising seas, and a range of other impacts. All of those changes are emerging as humans continue to add heat-trapping greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, changing the rhythms of climate that all living things have come to rely on.
