5 Things to avoid that makes you feel weary on Thanksgiving Day

5 things to avoid that makes you feel weary on Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day is on 24th November this year. Each year there are lots of Thanksgiving activities in each household, shopping for ourselves, buying gifts for friends and relatives, having a great feast at home or organizing one for the near and dear ones. After all the pomp and show many of us complain of feeling tired and stressful. You feel as if you have less energy and you are just off to sleep. Here are the 5 things to avoid that may make you feel tired, stressed and sleepy on Thanksgiving Day.

1. Avoid eating too much fat and opt for more veggies

Avoid Eating Turkey

In 2015, more than 233.1 million turkeys were raised. More than 212 million were consumed in the United States. 46 million of those turkeys were eaten at Thanksgiving, 22 million at Christmas and 19 million at Easter.

Many of you will not like this as it is the one most popular tradition of having a great Turkey meal on this day. Do you feel to go to sleep right after Turkey dinner? You blame the Turkey for this and say that because the turkey you eat is loaded with tryptophan, which makes you drowsy and drags you into slumber. Well tryptophan can be found in all kinds of foods, ranging from dairy products and nuts to meats and tofu. Even cheddar cheese contains greater amounts of tryptophan than turkey. Basically, any big meal containing tryptophan and lots of carbohydrates can trigger sleepiness.

So what is it that makes you feel weary. It’s actually a combination of factors, starting with the high fat content of most Thanksgiving dinners. The average festive meal contains 229 grams of fat and 3,000 calories, reported MSNBC; that’s more than most men and women eat in an entire day. Digesting fat requires a lot of energy, so the body sends more blood to your digestive system to manage the load. Reduced blood flow throughout your body means reduced energy. So pardon the Turkey and other fat foods and switch to green veggies.

2. Avoid alcohol and go for other light drinks

Avoid Alcohol

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant with fast-acting sedative effects

Alcohol is another reason your eyelids may grow heavy and you feel lethargic. On Thanksgiving, many adults drink beer, wine, or cocktails throughout the day and with their meals without realizing that alcohol is a central nervous system depressant with fast-acting sedative effects.
With anesthetic properties it absorbs in the central nervous system but not as much as halogenated hydrocarbons. They are extraordinarily dissolved in brain and in the chance of overdose or deep enough anesthesia result in cardio/ respiratory arrest. A small amount of alcohol may be good, but why not try for a change and have some fruit juice or shakes or have these alcohol free drinks.

3. Avoid shopping and start DIY

Avoid Shopping

Americans plan to spend an average $935.58 during the holiday shopping season this year, according to NRF’s survey conducted by Prosper Insights. Nearly six in 10 plan to buy for themselves, spending an average $139.61, up 4 percent from last year and marking the second-highest level of personal spending in the survey’s 13-year history

Shopping is the one thing that is most difficult to avoid but it is one thing that leaves you all stressed and tired. Whether you’ve been shopping for weeks or are waiting until the last minute, buying groceries and other things for Thanksgiving can be an expensive and stressful endeavor. Even if Thanksgiving is over, you may still have more to deal with such as Black Friday shopping. It is better to avoid shopping and be creative at home with relaxing mind. Make a gift list and gather craft supplies to make wonderful presents for everyone. Involve kids too to help you out in rolling out clay ornaments or putting together Mason jar snow globes. Or find a craft you’ve all been dying to learn, like knitting or scrapbooking. But if you do intend to shop and go the mall then make limits and schedule the time for it.

4. Avoid holiday trips and enjoy local areas

Avoid Holiday Trips

46.6 million people traveled last year with 300,000 additional holiday travelers, marking the seventh consecutive year of growth for Thanksgiving travel

Holiday trips are fun and create new bonds as well as help you to open you mind to other cultures. But such trips are stressful in holiday season. Many people dread travelling, especially around the holidays, when this joyous season takes on a much more stressful tone. Airports are clogged, traffic is a nightmare, and rates for everything increase dramatically. Also with the recent threat of terrorism around the globe, the idea of a vacation becomes more stressful and worrisome.

So where to go out to enjoy? Well within your own area limits while everyone is flocking to shopping centers, your local museums may be less crowded and better to visit. Take advantage of this time by guiding your kids through the quiet exhibits, spending as much time as you want at each display without caring for any other thing. Or visit your local library and take advantage of the extra time your librarian will have by having each of your kids ask for recommendations and books to enjoy. If this not suits you then watch a movie at home or play slot games online and have fun.

5. Avoid getting into debt

Avoid Getting into debt

In 2015, average American families spend $50.11 for their Thanksgiving spread. That’s more than twice as much as they spent in 1987, when a 10-person turkey dinner cost just $24.51, according to data from the American Farm Bureau Federation

Last but not the least this is the most important thing that makes you mentally weary and exhausted. After all the fun if you indulge in buying Turkeys, gifts, doing shopping you find your wallet all exhausted in the end of the November month.
Keep your spending in check and freeze your credit card while shopping. Always prepare a budget and the list for spending. Calculate how much you need to drain and how much you need to save for next holiday. Find more varieties in enjoy Thanksgiving instead of spending.
Remember there are more holidays to follow like the Christmas and the New Year so you need to save for that too. Ending up all in Thanksgiving will make you more stressful.

So while you think to avoid the above 5 things that will surely make you tired, sleepy and stressed do not forget to take care of yourself in holiday season. Just relax and have some calming time for yourself. Have quiet time with your kids, friends and other relatives. Take a massage, watch a movie, clean the house if want to do something, grow veggies or flowers in your pots or garden, excerise to keep yourself fit and if not anything to do then play some casino games online and grab so many of thanksgiving bonuses which might make you some wins. Moreover do not forget to Thank each and every one that are a part of your life and what all you have to make you happy.
